Founded in 2012, ILLUME Lighting + Event Design (CRU Design, LLC) is an event design and rental company specializing in lighting, draping, decor, and event management. We comprise a team with backgrounds ranging from live production to corporations all coming together to produce your event. Though we call Pittsburgh home, we proudly design for clients anywhere their event may call home including nationwide and international destinations.
You rarely get a second chance when planning a significant event such as a wedding or social gathering. So it is essential to have a confident, experienced, and motivated team to work with you through the planning process – and bring your ideas to actuality. Our team will work for you as we design and execute your perfect event, listening to your ideas and budget requirements while helping you achieve your dream event on time.
From Our Founder
At ILLUME we are dedicated to the highest quality of service, delivered with our own brand of imagination, originality and creativity. We do not sell you ideas we have on a shelf at our warehouse just to make a sale but a truly customized atmosphere that matches your vision, theme and ambiance. A majority of our draping and decor inventory is fabricated by myself or my team to the exact specifications required.
I’m often asked what drives me to keep my business thriving. I think the answer is simple. Meeting with a client and discussing their event then seeing their ideas become a reality is what motivates me to do what I do. There is no greater feeling than speaking with a client after their event and realizing the impact myself and my team had on their event.

Being the creative side of the sandwich here at ILLUME, I’ve been in the entertainment industry for about eighteen years often doing lighting for concerts, corporate, and theatrical productions. I’ve had some awesome gigs throughout my career, but that is a story for another day. Though lighting is my first passion, I have learned to incorporate lots of visual elements into my designs. When I’m not designing for my clients (which is rare), I’m watching movies, with family, playing with my dogs, or in my favorite place – Disney World!
Kristin MaherChief Operations Officer
I make sure everything moves smoothly behind the scenes while Chris is working his creative magic. My training is in Human Resources, but I’ve ALWAYS wanted to work in the event industry – now I am living the dream! When I am not wrangling Chris on the job, I am wrangling him AND our dogs. If you need to find me, I will most likely be sipping on a craft beer and reading a book, crafting on my Cricut, or scampering around Disney World with the other half of my sandwich.
Morgan DeCiccioEvent Specialist
I am a recent graduate of West Virginia University where I studied design, event planning, entrepreneurship, and communication. Through summer internships, I have been lucky enough to gain experience in a variety of event types. As a new addition to the ILLUME team, I am so excited to learn from both Chris and Kristin as well assist in creating perfect events for our clients. When I’m not learning as much as I can about the event industry, I am curled up with a book, painting, learning to knit, or exploring my new city!
